In the United States football is the sport that excites the most passion. Unfortunately not every child is cut out to play football. Many parents are nervous about allowing their child to engage in a full contact sport that can cause serious injuries. In the rest of the world it is soccer that ignites the passion of sports fans. Soccer involves less physical contact than football, and physical size is less of an issue. A great introduction to soccer is a summer soccer camp.

Attending a summer soccer camp can prepare children to play on school teams later. Soccer is a faster paced game than football, almost like basketball, and speed and agility counts for more than size and strength. Summer soccer camps hone the skills needed for competitive play.

The coaches and instructors at summer soccer camps are experts in the game and teach soccer from beginner to expert levels. In some cases, matches between the camps may include teams from other countries. Children can gain new cultural perspective from this experience. Many camps cover the range of school aged children, from elementary to college.

There are many options for summer soccer camp. American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) offers day camps in many areas of the country and a residential camp in California for children over 12 . On the east coast UK Elite Soccer offers day and residential programs for children age 5 and up. There are many other programs to chose from in the United States.

For parents who want their child to have an international experience, Soccer Camps International offer residential summer soccer camps coached by experts in England, France, Spain and Italy.

In South America, the Tahuichi Academy offers a one month residential training camp. The teams trained at the Tahuichi Academy travel world wide and have won prestigious competitions in many countries.

If your child is just going to sit at home watching TV this summer, why not consider a summer soccer camp. It can give a boy or girl confidence and leadership skills that will serve them long after camp is a memory.
