When kids step into middle school or high school, parents are often faced with the challenge of how to keep them productive during the summer when school is out. Pre-teens and teens already have a lot things that are starting to happen to them personally, and they are, in reality, too old for the traditional day camps, but they are still too young to be left unsupervised. That is why parents look for summer camps for teens that could give them their life skills training while still giving them the opportunity to just “hang out.”
This particular age group is of a critical stage since they are mostly trying to find their place in the society (or in the world, for the more melodramatic) and also trying to fit in with their peers and family. Depending on the interests or innate skills of the teenager, there are a lot summer programs to choose from and most of these are geared towards further educational or cultural exposure of the kids.
For the more outgoing and active campers, there are adventure and wilderness programs that can be exciting for them. These adventure summer camps for teens help develop their characters even more and hone their leadership skills as well.
Sports camps are also particularly interesting to many teenagers who already have started to develop their athletic skills during their earlier years in school. These kids may want to further develop their newly found skills in order to advance to the varsity level in school. A lot of sports camps offer running, swimming, tennis, football, basketball, soccer, as well as field hockey and ice hockey to those teens that are really serious about advancing their athletic skills.
