Summer is here and its time for outdoor fun. Kids who have been cooped up in school for months look forward to getting outside and playing. If you are working parents, instead of sending your child to a daycare where they will be indoors for most of the day, consider sending them to an outdoor summer camp.
There are many outdoor summer camp programs available in communities all over the United States. Some are day camps where the child comes home at night, and some are residential camps. By their nature, camps encourage outdoor activities.
Traditional camps offer hiking, swimming, sports, arts and crafts, even biking. These are activities that get children moving and active while they enjoy the outdoors. Theme camps may offer programs that require some time indoors, but still encourage children to participate in outdoor activities. Sports camps are by their very nature, outdoor summer camps.
There are camps for almost every child, from 5 to 18, where they will get outside and get moving. With childhood obesity becoming a national epidemic, its time to get children back to physical activities that tone the body and sharpen the mind. Having other children to interact with helps to teach social skills and games teach sportsmanship and fair play.
Whether you chose a day camp or a residential program, outdoor summer camps will give your child a fun time and a learning experience. Sunshine and fresh air are great counterpoints to winters spent indoors. Away from city lights, some children will actually see the stars for the first time. There is just something delicious about ghost stories told outdoors by a campfire, and that’s not to mention roasted marshmallows and smores.
Give your child a terrific vacation this year with an outdoor summer camp. Its an experience he’ll never forget.
