Some parents prefer that their daughters attend an all girls camp, but it’s not as easy to find single gender camps as it once was.
Most single gender camps are local rather than national which means you will have to check your local area for appropriate girls summer camps. You can also check with your local churches, YWCA, and Girl Scouts of America.
Many of the girls summer camps are sports camps. Sports camps are more likely to exclude boys because generally speaking, girls do not compete against boys in sports. There are also academic camp programs that cater to girls and young women. The list of three camps below are typical of the offerings you may expect to find in your area.
Camp Rockbrook is a traditional residential girls summer camp located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. They offer a variety of camping activities like swimming, hiking, arts and crafts and sports. Their sessions are 2 weeks and 4 weeks.
Nike Softball Camps are girls summer camps offering day and residential programs. They are sports camps aimed at improving softball skills of competitive players They have programs in 12 states.
Curious Jane is an academic day camp at Bryn Mawr for girls grades 3 through 6. Their program is aimed at design, engineering and sciences. Their sister program is Blue Tree Rising which is a day camp for girls grades 7 through 12.
This is just a sampling of the types of girls summer camps that are available. To find the right camp for your child, check local community resources or search the web for camps in your area.
